Thriplow Jubilee Celebrations Meeting
 25-Jan-2012   Thriplow Village   Nick Wittering

Dear All

Thank you to those who have already received emails and responded concerning the date of this meeting.

This email is to all who have expressed an interest in being involved in Thriplow's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, and to those who have not yet heard from us. Derek and Sue Pinner have been very active in gathering support for the celebrations, having not only organised a public meeting but also having spread the word among others who were unable to attend the meeting; their volunteer duty in the shop on Sunday proved especially fruitful!

At the public meeting we were shown a DVD of Thriplow's 1977 Silver Jubilee celebrations that included a street procession, a profusion of flags and bunting, 'Its a Knockout', Tug of War, and other games, plus a meal for 400 in what is now the Revivals barn. A hard act to follow. A few copies of the DVD are available from Derek for those seeking inspiration.

Please could all those that can make it come along to the Green Man on Thursday 2 February at 8pm, for a gathering to kick off some good ideas, and identify some individual talents that can be put to good use. We also need those with a talent for organising to come forward and bring some order to the proceedings!

If you know of anyone else that might be interested do please bring them along.

If you can't attend but wish to make a suggestion or offer some help or expertise, please let me know and I will pass it on. Phone number – 01763 208303, or by email at martin.arthur7@gmail.com .

With Best Wishes

Martin Arthur

You may have heard the noise of diggers and trucks in the fields between Thriplow and Heathfield recently. This is the start of works to construct a new Bridleway linking the two communities by the shortest route. The Parish Council and KWS are each part-funding Russell Smith Farms to lay a concrete path (at least 2m wide but typically 2.7m wide) for use by pedestrians and cyclists, it will also be useful for kiddies scooters and prams. Alongside this path will be at least 2m of grass verge for use by horse riders. The money comes from Section 106 funds received from the developers of Heathfield some years ago.

Thriplow now on Google StreetView
 11-Mar-2010   Thriplow Village   Nick Wittering

Thriplow (along with most of the UK) is now showing on Google StreetView. To view the new imagery, go to  Google Maps (link is zoomed on Thriplow) and then drag the orange man on the left and hover him over the village. Once you've chosen where to view, just let go of the mouse button and the photos will appear.

I know there have been some protests regarding privacy issues concerning StreetView, so if you object to your property being available to everyone on the entire planet to see then there is a link in the bottom left of the screen where you can request it to be removed. You must be viewing your property before you click the link in order for the report to accurate.
