THRIPLOW PARISH COUNCIL IS TO HOLD AN ELECTION FOR COUNCILLORS

IF YOU WISH TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO YOUR COMMUNITY, CONSIDER BECOMING A PARISH COUNCILLOR NOW.

The parish has 9 councillors. Thriplow Parish has 883 electors. The Parish Council is involved with planning applications, parish maintenance, maintenance of public open spaces and S106 funding as well as other items of local interest which arise from time to time. Parish Council meetings are held bi-monthly at Thriplow Village Hall starting at 7.30 pm. It would be great to have more residents from all areas in the Parish involved in Parish Council work.

Elections take place on the 3rd May 2012. Nominations must be submitted between 28th March and 4th April (12 noon)

A parish councillor must be 18 years or over, a British subject or a citizen of a member state of the European Union and be (a) an elector of the parish; or (b) a person who over the whole of the last 12 months has been owner or tenant of land or premises in the parish or has lived in the parish or within 3 miles or has had his principal place of work in the parish. A councillor will be disqualified from standing for office if he or she:

Is given a sentence of imprisonment (suspended or not) of not less than 3 months without the option of a fine or he has been declared bankrupt, within the last 5 years.
Has been found guilty of corrupt or illegal practices.
Holds a paid office in the gift of the council.
