A group of mothers have approached the Parish Council with a view to re-investing into the Thriplow Village Playground. The group, called the Thriplow Rec Improvement Committee, or TRIC for short, aims to raise funds from a variety of sources and to consult widely so that the improvements can be afforded, and are relevant to the needs of the users and to the neighbours of the play area, indeed to everyone in the village. We think that between £50,000 - £100,000 might be needed for this improvement. It is an ambitious plan but one which will stand the play area in good stead for the long term if we can pull it off. The Parish Council is supporting the aims of the group, and has established the group as an Advisory Committee to the Council. Two councillors have been attached to TRIC.
Apart from setting up the group's administrative, financial and legal status, the first big task is to consult with anyone who may be interested in this development. This consultation process will start over the next few weeks. First of all, everyone in the village will be invited to an event in the Village Hall on Saturday 12th February, 10am to noon. One of the group will spend time talking to you about your views when they deliver your invite. Refreshments will be provided at this event and the committee members will be on hand to talk to you about the project. We want to hear about:
- what facilities you think the play area should provide
- how it can be better used
- thoughts about how the area can be maintained
- safety issues
- what problems the improvement might bring
- how you would like to see these problems being managed
Other consultations with specific, and relevant local groups will follow. All these consultations will be invaluable in the process of obtaining funding, fund-holders are very thorough these days and our process of consultation, and the plan for the play area needs to be thorough too.
Please put the morning of February 12th in your diary and come along for a cup of tea and a cake. You may only need to spend 10 minutes looking at what we are planning and giving your views, but your time will be useful to us. Whether you are a parent, a grandparent, have visiting kids, are a neighbour to the area or just have an interest in the village, we need your comments.
