 02-Mar-2011   Thriplow Shop   Thriplow Shop

1) Wine Club last orders please. I am just about ready to send Noel Young the Q1 order. If you wish to order anything from the club, please let me know soon.

2) We had a very creditable February with takings of £11,700 against our monthly target of £12,000, so in a short month with a half term in it and no income from the wine club or fundraising efforts. This is better than last February and we beat our daily target of £400 so we are still on an upward trend. However, the VAT rise will make our profit margin lower until we have increased the prices of new goods delivered to the shop. And we, like everyone else, are suffering from inflation in the cost of our goods, electricity and other fixed costs. So profitability is down somewhat and a new financial plan which takes these things into account is being developed. We are, I'm afraid fated to keep performing at or just above the break even level, even though we are working very hard, but this is much better than the loss-making position we were in when we lost the post office and takings are very much higher than they were 3 years ago.

3) The next 150 Club Draw will be made on Tuesday March 22nd, again at the Green Man, at around 8pm ish. Come and support us and the pub by making a night of it and having a meal and a drink there!

4) Pancake Day, or should we call it Shrove Tuesday, is next Tuesday, 8th March. Everyone looks forward to a pancake or two on that day so we've put some reminders and suggestions up in the shop, and of course we sell all the items you will need to make your pancakes the best ever! Have a look at the small display and suggestions on the end of the wine shelving.

5) Daffodil Weekend is only 26 days away now. Just a reminder that these two days are by far the busiest in the shop in the entire year, but we have a relatively normal morning session, so if you want your papers, coffee, croissants, bread, sweets etc without having to wait in a huge queue, please try to be with us before 11am.

6) And speaking of Daffodil Weekend, we have a couple of messages to put out from the committee.
a) If anyone could help out with serving teas in the Village Hall or School or Cricket Pavillion, on Sunday particularly, please get in touch with Ann Robertson on 208991.
b) It would be very much appreciated if anyone could take the time to bake those scrumptious cakes so much loved by our visitors. If you can deliver them to either the Village Hall, Cricket Pavillion or School on the day, please do so, or call Ann Robertson on 208991 and she will arrange for them to be collected from you.

That's all for now.

Kevin
