Thriplow Shop

Hi everyone, some important stuff happening at the Shop so here goes…
1. AGM and 150 Club draw
2. New stuff in the deli and the shop
3. Crop for the shop items
4. Become a volunteer
5. Our performance in June to date.
1. The AGM. Our AGM is on Thursday at 8pm in the Village Hall. Everyone who is a subscriber to the Shop is welcome and we encourage you to attend, We will review the year, look into the Financial Report, elect a new committee and discuss other matters that arise.
Also, we will be doing the June 150 Club draw as part of the meeting, yes I know it’s late this month but I haven’t had time to go to the pub….
2. The Deli counter again looks good. We’ve just had a cheese delivery, this time it includes the cheeses that went down rather too well at the wine tasting evening – look out for Buche and Taleggio. We are stocking BBQ meat in the fridge on most days and the strawberries have gone well and are now British grown and cheaper than earlier. There is an assortment of kid’s stuff ready for the summer holidays – fishing nets, bubble blowers, frisbees, tennis balls, water bombs etc, - hours of fun!
3. Crop for the Shop. Yes its that time of year again and we have already had punnets of Thriplow grown cherries and red- and black-currants in the deli counter from generous customers. Lettuce should be in there this week and we would welcome anything else that you grow to excess in your own plots. A personal plea here, if anyone has any greengages, please, please, please consider letting us have some to sell.
4. We have two new volunteers, Hanna and Brian Roberts, helping out on the Sunday rota. They did their first session unsupervised last week and everything went perfectly. They even enjoyed it! We are always looking out for Sunday volunteers, it means it is sensible for the shop to open on Sundays. Please contact the shop if you want to join our rota – you will be in the shop roughly once every six or seven weeks.
5. June performance. Although June isn’t over yet, we will again beat our target for the month. Sales have been very good and we have had the benefit of the winetasting order coming in, and the Open Garden evening at Annie Eccles. Together, these two fundraisers made us well over £1,000 profit. Unfortunately we also had a fridge breakdown and we needed to get the coffee machine serviced and the water softener changed – these little costs, and the higher cost of electricity/water can be crippling. Now we are told that the cost of our newspaper delivery is to rise by 5%. We are running a low cost operation but our only answer to living with these cost increases is to increase our turnover, which we have done well at thanks to you, our customers, and to generous donations like the Daffodil Weekend for paying the rent for another year. Thank you all for the support you give.
