Oh how happy we are!
Lots of news this week, so here goes…
1. Thriplow Shop is officially “Excellent”
2. Our new member of staff
3. New products in the shop
4. 150 Club draw for July
5. Subscriptions update
1. We’ve been awarded an extra star for hygiene
A surprise visit from the South Cambs Environmental Health Inspector today resulted in us gaining an extra star to make us have the full set of five. We had acted upon the small criticisms and suggestions from their visit 18 months ago and so she judged us now to be Excellent. Have a look for our extra shiny star on the shop window, next time you are in.
2. Keith Trigg joins our team
We have a new member of staff, Keith Trigg, who is nominally going to work in the shop on Friday mornings and evenings, but will undoubtedly also be helping us during school holidays and times of sickness. Welcome to Keith, he seems to have understood his training quite well but his first solo shift is Friday morning so please be patient with him while he gets the hang of it!
3. New Products
Today, we had a new cheese delivery, some lovely blue stilton, goats cheese, brie and dolcelatte amongst others. We have some new olives and look out for Warburton’s Pitta crisps – quite original and in three flavours.
For kids and the school holidays, look out for the flashy Alien balls, tennis kit and fishing nets.
And there will be more "crop for the shop" to come I’m sure. The redcurrants and lettuces have been going well. There are some large, medium strength red and green chillies at 25p each and some baby courgettes. Please keep bringing your excess veggies and fruit in and watch this space!
4. 150 Club
The draw for July will take place in the Green Man next Tuesday evening, probably about 8pm. All welcome.
5. Subscriptions
We are really pleased with the generosity of all those people who have bought their subscription so far. If you still wish to be a subscriber, please drop your contribution off in the shop and Judy will be printing out certificates shortly. This really helps us.
6. Our AGM
We held the AGM in late June and reported a “profit" for the year ending January 2011 of £3,292. This is good news but of course we were very lucky to receive over £4,000 from Daffodil Weekend to cover the shop rent. So we did not quite reach our target to achieve better than break-even performance without such contributions.
Thanks to our customers, and the efforts of our staff and volunteers, our sales volume goes up almost every month and even though our costs are increasing, we are confident that by this time next year we will have reached our target. For now, this profit goes into our reserves in case of a rainy day, and also into building up our stocks. (For those of you who don’t know, the TVSA Committee does not take any money out of the shop – it is a Not-for-Profit organization).
