Thriplow Daffodil Weekend Queen's Award 2011
 25-Jul-2011   Daffodil Weekend   Nick Wittering

Thriplow Daffodil Weenend
Queen's Award

The Thriplow Daffodil Weekend Committee was honoured to have been awarded The Queen’s Award for voluntary service on Saturday 16 July.  The award was to the Thriplow Daffodil Weekend Committee for their outstanding voluntary service in relation to what was described as an exceptional village event.

There were only 11 awards made throughout the Eastern Region and it is the equivalent of an MBE for volunteers.  The Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, the Queen’s Representative in the area, attended a ceremony on “The Green” at 5pm on 16 July attended by over 50 villagers, Parish Councillors and members of organisations who have benefited from monies raised.

The Lord Lieutenant praised the Committee for their hard work and also the whole village for making visitors feel so welcome.  Tim Holmes, Chairman of Thriplow Daffodil Weekend Committee thanked the Lord Lieutenant for attending and also thanked the current Committee and previous Committees who over the last 43 years have made the event the success it is today.

Tim Holmes, Chairman, Lynne Turner (former Head of Marketing & PR), Alison Starr (Hon. Treasurer) and Jeremy Murray (former Daffodil Weekend Organiser and Secretary) were very honoured to have attended a Garden Party hosted by The Queen at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 12 July. It was a great opportunity to see the lovely garden, enjoy an excellent tea on the lawns of Buckingham Palace and see The Queen and other member’s of the Royal Family at an event attended by over 7,000 people who have been involved in Charitable works, The Services, The Diplomatic Corps and The Civil Service.

The Queen’s Award ornament is to be on permanent display in Thriplow Village Hall along with a Certificate signed by The Queen.
