As we run up to Christmas we have a lot of news, so here goes...

1. Our milk fridge is working again
2. Fowlmere Shop has closed
3. New offers from the Shop
4. September was good for us
5 150 Club

1. Well, the long saga of our milk fridge is now over and we have found the problem on the 5th visit by the technicians. After replacing the fan motor, thermometer and compressor - essentially all the moving parts - and it still wasn't working, a lad who knew what he was doing came and found that a light tube that had crumbled was the problem, it took him 10 minutes to find that. The company are so embarrassed about this mis-diagnosis that we're not going to be charged for much of this work and parts so we've basically got a new fridge for a fraction of the price of a real one. Good outcome!

2. We are truly sorry to hear that Fowlmere Shop has closed, although this perhaps was not unexpected. It would have been easy to think that this could have been our shop three years ago, when we lost our Post Office counter and its income, but we have gone from strength to strength since then. Let's take a pat on the back then for everyone who has been involved in this and another thank you to our customers who are the ones who really matter. However, Fowlmere's loss is another opportunity for us to serve more customers and we are already starting to see Fowlmere people ordering their papers and picking up their emergency goods and we welcome them. But we need to spread the word, so if you have any friends in Fowlmere, just let them know we're here, a recommendation is the best form of advertising. Thanks for helping us out.

3. We will have lots of offers as we get along to Christmas:

  • Our Christmas goods will be on display from November 1. We’ve got a good selection this year and we hope that you can find those little gifts for work colleagues, relatives and mums and dads.
  • There will be a special round of the wine club where you can order champagne, muscat, dessert wines or special ports from Noel Young, watch out for details on your email. We can also order cases from the wine round that has just been delivered if anyone needs to top up.
  • We have a special 2 for 80p offer on chocolate bars, in a fancy cardboard barrel in the shop, you can't miss it!
  • There will be a couple of days when we display hand made jewellery in the shop as before, we don't know the days yet but these events have always been well supported in the past
  • We will be taking cheese orders in December for your Christmas dinner parties, stiltons, bries and anything else you require should be available.
  • We hope to get some more Thriplow calendars for 2012 in, they sold out last year
  • We are starting to stock coal and logs again for those open fires and stoves that are starting to be fired up

4. September actually went well for us after a worrying start with high costs associated with the fridge breakdown. We beat budget sales by £800 and October has started very well indeed. We are hoping this is a trend that will continue until Christmas.

5. This is the last call for the 150 Club for next year’s entries, which starts a new year next month. The winner in October was Olive Dellar, congratulations to Olive. The next draw will be on Tuesday November 15 in the Green Man. If you haven't paid for your number by the 8th November, we will have to sell it to someone else.
