Usability Statement
This site has been developed to ensure content is available to the widest possible audience and significant redesign has been undertaken on our site in order to meet those standards that relate to access for people with disabilities or technical constraints with their browsers and internet connections. By adhering to guidelines for accessible web design, we acknowledge the diversity of communication methods, available technologies and abilities of web-users in the community.
However, if you are unable to use any part of this site please contact the webmaster webmaster and we'll do our utmost to make it easier.
Navigation aids
All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for main titles, and H2, H3 etc for hierarchical sub-headings.
Each page has the main menu shown on the left of the screen to aid you in your use of this website.
Links
Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article).
Wherever possible, links are written to make sense out of context. Many browsers (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx, and Opera) can extract the list of links on a page and allow the user to browse the list, separately from the page.
Images
All content images include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.
Visual design
This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. This makes it easier for us to change elements of the website design throughout the site.
Changing the text size
When we designed this site, we tried to use as large a text size as possible. However, we also had to make sure we could get as much information as we could on the screen to make it easier for you to find your way round the site. If you would find it helpful to have larger text, you can change this yourself by doing the following:
Locate the buttons with different sized A characters on the right hand side of the page towards the top. By default the size is the smallest of the A buttons, click on the appropriate size to suit you. Your choice is stored in a small file on your computer called a cookie, and means your choice of text size is shown when you return to the website. If this doesn't offer sufficient change you can change the text size in your browser as follows:
With Internet Explorer 6, click on View at the top of the screen and then select Text Size. You will then be able to choose Larger or Largest.
With Internet Explorer 7/8, click the 'page' button in your browser, click 'Text Size'and select the size you want.
With Firefox click on View at the top of the screen, then Text Size and select Increase or Decrease.
IE 6 and below: This website does not work as intended with these browsers. You may have varying degrees of success.
