Shop Newsletter 120213

Lots of good news so here it is…

  1. A good start to the year
  2. Special days coming up
  3. Some bargain offers
  4. 150 Club winners and next draw
  5. Daffodil Weekend
  6. We’ve had a great start to 2012. January was slow to start with as usual but picked up nicely and we hit our budget sales for the month, and were 6% up on 2011’s January. But February has really taken off and we’ve noticed that Saturdays, when we open until 1pm (thanks to Jenny and David H) is getting as good as a weekday when we are open from 7am till 6pm! We are sorry if you have to wait in a bit of a queue for your papers but this is obviously good news for the shop.
  7. In case you needed a reminder (!) it is Valentine’s Day tomorrow (14th). We have some nice jewellery, confectionery, cards and wine available for the last minute merchants among you, and nobody will know that you had forgotten!

Pancake day is Tuesday 21st February, we have stocked up with flour, sugar and butter and we’ll have fresh village eggs, lemons and oranges in for the day.

Mother’s Day is Sunday March 18th. Here then is advanced warning of two special events that we are running for mums. On Wednesday 7th (10am to 2pm) and Saturday 10th (10am to 12 noon), we will have a special jewellery collection made by some local ladies, on sale. Cash only I’m afraid. Those of us who have seen the collection are excited about this.

3. We have seen slow sales of Carlsberg lager and Drench juice recently and this has left us with stock on hand. We have a few cans and bottles just out of “Best Before” dates but clearly there won’t be anything wrong with a can of beer or a bottle of juice! Juice is at half price and Carlsberg cans are 89p per can or £20 per slab of 24 cans. Bargains!

4. January’s 150 Club winner was Sue Pinner, which just goes to show that Committee members can actually win – not that some of us have had a sniff yet! The next draw will take place on Tuesday February 21st in the Green Man.

5. Daffodil Weekend may come up before the next Shop Newsletter, if it does, let us remind you that we will be open from normal times on Saturday and Sunday but will close at 6pm each day. It will be horrendously busy between 11 and 4.30pm so please come for your papers and normal shopping earlier than usual. And remember that car entry to the village will be limited after around 10am.
