Thriplow Shop Newsletter 12/04/08

Some great news this month about our little shop....

  1. Record breaking performance in March.
  2. Crop for the Shop starting up again.
  3. 150 Club winners and the next draw.
  4. Wine club.
  5. The Jewellery Show
  6. We had a fantastic result for March.

We made sales of £22,300 in March. This is by far the highest turnover we’ve had in a month, and it smashed our budget. In fact the previous record was £18,100 and this was last March, again in the month of Daffodil Weekend. We were helped by also running a big round of the Wine Club in the same month but even so, this result is just stunning and together with the months we have already had in the year, we are doing very well. Rumours abound that several of our committee and staff have been offered positions on the Board of struggling old Tesco, but we’ll let you know...

2. If you are setting your seeds out for the kitchen garden just now, put a few extra in and then you can bring your surplus product down to the shop for your neighbours to buy and enjoy. These produce items are always very popular, we guess because they are a) fresh, b) usually organic and c) cheaper than in the supermarket. Whatever, we are always getting feedback that Crop for the Shop items are good to eat and we do try to pass those thanks onto the producers if we can remember. If you have any early produce, for example surplus rhubarb or jams, we would be very happy to take some off your hands. In anticipation of a good year of crop for the Shop, let us say thanks to those who contribute.

3. Barry Radley won first prize in the 150 Club draw for February, well done Barry. Three other winners will remain anonymous but once again, no-one from the committee or staff were among them – just where do our numbers go to on the draw? The next draw will take place in the Green Man on Tuesday 17th April, about 8pm or so.

4. The Wine Club round was a very good one this quarter but if you missed out, don’t worry! The wines from the offer are all available in the shop now and will be for a while as we can re-order those that sell out. Our wines are selling much faster than they did a year or two ago so Noel has obviously got the right idea in his selections.

5. We held two jewellery shows in March, one midweek and one on a Saturday. These were very popular and the two ladies who were displaying their wares were very pleased with their sales (and the shop makes a small commission). They will be back later in the year with new stuff, probably in the run up to Christmas.
