How to get involved / enter the competitions

The games and competitions are open to all (apart from the children’s fairy cake competition!). Join in with as many or as few as you want, or just come along to watch. Tea and seating will be provided, and of course, the pub will be open.

Hat Competition – design and make a hat (to make before the day) using the theme of “The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee”. It must be capable of being worn on your head and you can wear it throughout the day as part of the Grand Parade and general festivities. Judging will take place secretly during the day with the results being announced at the Feast. There will be prizes for adults and children.

Cake Competition – design and make a cake on a Royal theme. It can be any shape and size. The cakes will be judged by look not by taste. Bear in mind though that the cakes will be divided up and eaten later on in the evening as part of the Feast! There will be prizes for adults and children. Bring your entry to the village hall between 10 and 12.

Posy Competition – design and make a posy for the Queen using materials from your garden. To be judged by the Fowlmere and Thriplow Gardening Club. Prizes for adults and children. Bring your entry to the village hall between 10 and 12. Interested in joining the Gardening Club? http://thriplow.org.uk/cms/ftgc.thriplow

Bunting Competition – make a 10 foot strip of bunting using any materials you may have. There must be enough string at each end for it to attach to other pieces of bunting. There will be prizes for adults and children. Bring your entry to the village hall between 10 and 12. The bunting will then also be used to decorate the party marquee.

Children’s fairy cake decorating – bring your children (11 and under) along to the Village Hall at 11.15 and they will be provided with ready-made fairy cakes to decorate with various types of decoration to choose from. There will be help and supervision and the children can take their cakes home.

Bike Time Trials – come along with your bike to do a timed circuit in the village and compete against your neighbours! Open to adults and children. The trials start at the Village Hall at 11.00 and will be split by age and ability. If you are interested in social, amateur cycling on a Sunday morning then why not join the lads? For details see www.lycralads.co.uk

Grand Parade – do you have a trailer, bike, go-cart, pram, wheelbarrow or other wheeled vehicle which you would like to decorate for the Grand Parade through the village? Why not dress up as a member of the Royal Family or wear your Royal Hat to join in the general silliness! Assembly starts at 3.00 in Church Street and sets off at 3.30 through the village. If you would like to enter a larger vehicle please contact Jack Lindop jack@PROTECTED

Village Games – fancy your chances in a tug of war competition? How good are you at catching eggs from a distance without dropping them? Are your sack race skills of Olympic standard? Fancy a go on the bouncy castle? Plenty of all-age fun on the village green. Starts after the Grand Parade – just join in.

The Feast – come and sit at a table in the open-sided marquee for a barbecued feast, cheese and pudding. Please bring your own cutlery, plates, salad and drink. You may also get to eat some of the fabulous competition cakes! Prepare to be entertained at your table with a revue of the Queen’s reign so far by TADS. Awards, raffle and silly competitions will take place during the Feast.

Disco and Fireworks – Party the night away.

If you would like to help with the organisation, competitions or setting up please contact a member of the committee: Richard Webber, Jack and Jenny Lindop, Martin Arthur, Barbara Pointon, Angela Rimmer, Brenda Perry, Pat Yates, Derek Pinner, Paul and Susan Earnshaw
