One of our subscribers has asked me to circulate this message. Grantchester Parish Council are happy for other Cambridgeshire residents to attend this meeting where some of the candidates will be presenting themselves.
On 15th November, an election will be held to choose the Police Commissioner for Cambridgeshire, a new post that will replace the current Police Authority. The new Police Commissioner will have the task of setting priorities for the Cambridgeshire police force, overseeing its budget and holding the Chief Constable to account.
Grantchester Parish Council feel that we should all have the opportunity to ask the candidates how they would propose to carry out this job, and so we have invited the candidates to a Hustings, on Wednesday 7th November at 8pm, in Grantchester Village Hall.
These Hustings are open to anyone in Cambridgeshire to attend, and we are particularly inviting our neighbouring villages, so the Hustings may have something of a focus on issues in policing in South Cambridgeshire. Nonetheless, all questions are open and everyone is welcome.
Please do come and learn as much about the candidates’ intentions as you wish.
Please be aware, however, that although we have invited all seven candidates, only three have committed to attend and one has still not replied to us after two weeks. Those confirmed as attending are:
Ansar Ali Independent
Stephen Goldspink English Democrats-More Police-Catching Criminals
Ed Murphy Labour
Those who will not attend, or have not replied, are:
Sir Graham Bright Conservative Paul Bullen UKIP Farooq Mohammed Independent Rupert Moss-Eccardt Liberal Democrat
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, Grantchester Parish Council
