Hi all,
49th Daffodil Weekend 18/19 March 2017
Daffodil Weekend is all about the village working together as a community. It is a great way to meet people, have fun and raise money for good causes. It is a unique event and something we should all be proud of!
Preparations are underway for next years event. Below are some more details on the arrangements and ways you may like to get involved.
Daffodil planting
· Working with the Parish Council we are undertaking a further mass planting of bulbs
· These will mostly be a variety known as “Golden Anniversary”(ideal for our 50th the year after next). These will be planted mostly all the way along Gravel Pit Hill but with some infilling in areas around the village – there is a map showing where all the bulbs we have planted over the last few years on display at the shop
· We are also planting our own unique variety “Thriplow Gold” around the village sign
· We are thinking of creating a high quality map/pamphlet which will be for sale showing the daffodils of Thriplow. We know where the main displays of daffodils are but please let us know if you have a display in your garden that can be seen from the road that should be included along with the variety name
Serving tea and helping in the car parks
· We are always looking for more help
· Serving teas, cake and sandwich making contact Gill McDonnell daffodilweekendcatering@PROTECTED
· Transport, car parking, heavy horses etc contact Imran Tayabali admin@PROTECTED
Open gardens
· We are always looking to open more gardens – please contact Paul Earnshaw (admin@PROTECTED) if you are willing to open your garden – even just for a few hours at some point in the weekend
Stalls at home
· Please remember that it is the event itself which gives you the opportunity for you to have a stall at home. If too many of us focus on our own personal fund raising we will not have the resources to support the main event and we will all lose. It would be greatly appreciated therefore that for profit generating stalls that you contribute 10% of your takings. If you are raising money purely for charity it would be good if you could let us know approximately how much you raised so we can create a “grand total” of money raised for charity by the whole event. If you would like to apply for a stall at home please contact Gill McDonnell at admin@PROTECTED
Road closures and keeping the village tidy
· As usual the roads will be closed between 9am and 6pm on the Saturday and Sunday of the weekend. This year we are trying out a new one way system which we hope should reduce the length of the queues. This is a trial and we will need more help to implement it – please get in touch with Imran and Melissa if you want to be involved admin@PROTECTED
· We will be trialling the use of temporary road matting at the entrances to the car parks and verges where damage occurs. This should hopefully minimise the straw that is left behind
50th Daffodil Weekend
· This will be taking place on the weekend of 7/8 April 2018
· There are many things being planned to make this special:
· Keep an eye out for updates
Contacting Daffodil Committee
· Please get in touch with us if you have any suggestions or concerns. We are always looking for people to join us - so if you want to have fun and help in organising a major charity event we will be able to find a role for you.
