Date: October 2nd 2017

Tim and Alice Holmes have asked me to send out a note for those who were unable to attend their talk last year. The details are as below:

Alice and I would like to invite you to an informal talk that we are giving at the Scott Polar Research Institute on 11th October. A number of friends and business colleagues have said that they would be interested in learning more about the expedition I took part in which completed at the end of last year to commemorate Shackleton’s epic trans-Antarctic expedition 100 years earlier. That expedition was inspired by the fact Alice’s grandfather James Wordie was the scientist on the “Endurance” that famously got stuck in the ice.

Alice will do an introduction to the history of Shackleton’s expedition with extracts from her Grandfathers diary. I will then give an insight into our goals and a flavour of some of the challenges we faced during our expedition 100 years later.

We are hosting an informal event as follows:

5pm Arrival/Soft Drinks
5.30pm – Talks and Presentation
6.30pm – Drinks reception
7.45pm – Close

There will also be an opportunity to visit the exhibits in the museum. There is no charge for the event but there will be an opportunity for guests if they wish to make individual donations to the Scott Polar Research Institute to further their research work. If you are interested in attending please contact my PA Jodie (jodie.flynn@PROTECTED) by Friday 6th October.

The event is at The Scott Polar Research Institute, Lensfield Road, Cambridge, CB2 1ER. There is some on street parking or the closest car park is at Queen Anne Terrace, Gonville Place, CB1 1ND.

Kind regards,

Tim
