Dear Residents,
Remembrance.
There are several activities for Remembrance taking place this week in Thriplow.
- In last month’s parish magazine (Oct) and on the village email you may have read the article by Ted Neal of Fowlmere asking for donation to the ‘There but Not There’ project. We are pleased that enough money was raised by the Thriplow community to purchase six Perspex figures - thankyou to all who contributed. These silhouetted figures, which represent some of the fallen of Thriplow, are now placed in St Georges Church. This project is organized by the charity ‘Remembered’ which support many forces charities.
- Shirley Wittering and other members of the Thriplow Society have put together a small exhibition in St Georges Church looking at the impact of the war upon the families of Thriplow in 1918. It includes information about the 14 local men who died, and those who returned home and also the building of the war memorial.
The church is open daily from 8am-5pm so please call in to see the figures and the exhibition in the south transept.
- On Armistice Day in 1918 the church bells across the country were rung out. More in relief that war was over rather than celebration. Across the Diocese of Ely bells will be rung next weekend to commemorate the End of the War.
Thriplow bells will be rung on Saturday 10th November at 9.30 - 10.30pm they will be half muffled and sets of 100 changes.
- On Sunday November 11th there will be the following services and acts of remembrance. :
Act of Remembrance at Thriplow War memorial 10.25am
Service of Remembrance 10.45am at St Georges Church.
This is a combined service with Fowlmere and members of the Royal British Legion from both villages. The names of those who died in both communities will be remembered at this service.
