Hi all,

Thanks!

Another Daffodil Weekend has passed. Firstly I must apologise for all of the disruption Daffodil Weekend causes – it is the one weekend of the year when our village goes crazy.

A huge thanks to all of you who helped out – we had over 400 volunteers this weekend and it is great to see many helpers from neighbouring villages as well as friends and family from further afield.

Daffodil weekend is about three things:

  1. Our community pulling together and having fun
  2. Our visitors having fun and being welcomed into our wonderful village
  3. If we do the above two then making money is a bonus

We managed to deliver all 3 of these this weekend

Setting up Daffodil Weekend is a huge effort and this year we implemented many new things including

· New traffic flow system

· Contactless payment

· New staging

The costs to run the weekend are closely controlled but are not widely known – this year we spent approximately £49,000 to set up. Outgoings include marquees, toilets, signs, insurance, generators, matting, ambulances etc. The business model is such that we do not directly recoup this money from purchases from the stalls but only through the tea rooms and from the entrance fee.

As a result of all of this work we managed to welcome over 14,000 people to our village and raise around £60,000 for local charities and good causes

I will display at the shop a list of all of the helpers and volunteers but special thanks must go to:

· Nigel Moore and Tim Holmes for bringing the new KWS emergency car park into operation at short notice

· George Hurrell for providing a superb new trailer stage (saving significant marquee costs)

· All the landowners for letting us use their fields

The committee have worked fantastically hard throughout the year to bring this event about

Finally, we can now all return to normal in our beautiful, quiet and friendly village. Thriplow - is the best place in the world to live – be proud of it

Best wishes

Paul
