Hi everyone,
CANCELLED - Daffodil Weekend 2021
Daffodil Weekend Committee recently held an Extraordinary General Meeting, involving representatives from most of the major groups and societies within our community. Due to the on-going Covid-19 situation it was reluctantly agreed that it will not be possible to safely hold the 2021 Daffodil Weekend, whilst still meeting our primary goal of raising funds for charity. Obviously, this is a huge disappointment to all of us.
Our first duty is to keep our visitors and volunteers safe. Although, Daffodil Weekend is seen as an outdoor event, there are many areas where close proximity indoors occurs, such as the Tearooms, craft marquees, Church, beer tent, minibuses and coaches. The event attracts many visitors from across the UK (and the World) which also increases the risk of transmission of the virus.
Daffodil Weekend is a charity fundraising event staffed entirely by volunteers. There are large costs associated with staging the event which we start to incur from early autumn. The social distancing measures we are inevitably going to have to enforce, would mean the weekend would make significant losses.
To make up for the loss of this year’s Weekend, we will be looking at other smaller and safer events we could possibly run, such as Daffodil Walks, Open Church and Smithy. We will also be looking at the viability of some form of community celebration. These events will, of course, depend on the current situation with Covid-19 at the time. Further plantings of daffodils will take place this autumn ready for when we can fully resume Daffodil Weekend.
Keep safe everyone and thank you for your continuing support during these difficult times.
Daffodil Weekend will be back and be better than ever!
Best wishes
The Daffodil Weekend Committee
