Thriplow Shop Newsletter 19/05/12
Here again is the news this month!
- Great financial performance again in April.
- We need volunteers for Sunday morning working.
- 150 Club winners and the next draw.
- Thriplow Recipe Book
- Sawston prescription deliveries
- We have a part-time position available.
- We did well again in April. The good performance was driven to some extent by the forthcoming huge price rise in stamps that was well known to be happening at the end of the month so we sold lots of stamps! But even without this, the month would have been well up on last year’s April.
- Many of you will know that we run the shop on Sunday from 8.30am to 12.30pm (just in time to get to the pub for lunch). It is always run by volunteers on Sunday. This is a really valuable service and our volunteers save us lots of money, and this has been the difference between opening the shop or not on Sundays in the past. We have 14 volunteers currently but we need more of them to make a good rota work especially over the holiday months of the summer. Please think about whether you could dedicate a Sunday morning every 7 or so weeks to help us out. It is actually quite easy and full training will be given. You won’t be left on your own as we always use volunteers in pairs, and our customers are very tolerant! If you want to know more, please ask in the shop or mail Kevin on ck.clarke@PROTECTED.
- Nobody won first prize in the 150 Club draw for March, it was one of two numbers that weren’t bought in the draw, so the shop actually won! The second, third and fourth prizes were won – and two of the winners were actually in the pub - so a good time was had by all! The next draw will take place in the Green Man this Wednesday, 23rd May, about 8pm or so.
- Our Recipe Book. We are still working on the Thriplow Recipe Book and if you have any favourite recipes, please forward them to Sue Pinner at sue.pinner@PROTECTED and she will include them in the book. We need a few savoury recipes for balance.
- We have started taking medicines from Sawston Health Centre, however they only deliver once per week (Tuesday) so if you use Sawston and want to hand in a repeat prescription, it has to be in our Sawston box by the end of Monday so they will collect it on Tuesday, otherwise your prescription will take longer to get back to the shop.
- Finally, we need some additional help of a paid, but part-time nature. The shop is much busier now than when we set off a few years ago. We particularly need the help of a strong person on a Tuesday to deal with the Booker order (cases of drinks can be quite heavy). There are opportunities for this person to work additional hours too so we can talk about this with the applicant to agree whatever works for both parties. If you are interested in helping out and getting a little extra cash, please let us know.
