Hi everyone, some good news to spread about so here goes...

  1. 150 Club results for August and this months draw
  2. We have some new stuff in the shop.
  3. August financial results were fabulous, again
  4. Reserved papers - reminder about how it works
  5. Wine Club Round about to commence
  6. 150 Club.

The winners of the prizes in the August draw were: £50 - Margaret Parkinson, £30 - Emma Owen, £20 - Amy Diment and £10 - Shelley (Revivals) who very generously donated her prize back to the shop, thank you Shelley.

The next draw will be on Thursday this week, September 27th, approximately 8pm in the Green Man, all welcome.

We are coming towards the end of your year's membership of the lottery and a new year for the draw starts on November 1. Please can you deposit your stake for the next year in the shop (if you wish to continue) and they will note down that you have paid. £15 will cover your entry for 12 draws from November 2012 to October 2013. Anyone not renewing their number by October 31 will lose their number and we will try to sell it to someone else. To remind you, there are about 150 entrants in the draw and we draw four prizes every month, worth a total of £110 every time. And all profits made from the draw (after the £20 annual licence fee is deducted) go to fund the shop.

If you do not take part in the draw, well here is your chance to join in the fun! Just ask about joining when you next come into the shop and they will sign you up with a number. The more entries we get, the more prize money we will issue each month.

2. New Stuff in the Shop.

We thought we should tell you about some new or seasonal things we have in the shop just now. We have bags of daffodil bulbs if you want to bring your garden or verge on earlier next spring (very important for all Thriplovians but nice also for anyone else in other villages). And we have winter flowering pansies to brighten up the dark winter days.

We also have a collection of raffia bags available from a local craftie person, where we get a small commission if we sell them. Take a look - they are on the shelves behind the fridges.

We have had our first delivery of logs, kindling and of course we’ve got firelighters ready for the winter evenings by the fire. Christmas will be coming soon. Once again we will have a selection of gift ideas, stocking fillers and seasonal foodstuffs, stamps, cards and wrapping paper. It will all be here sooner than we think!

3. August Financial Results.

August is typically the lowest month for the shop - lots of our customers are away from the village for all or part of the month as school holidays descend on us all. We are used to this cycle and expect to make up for a poor month on the run up to Christmas.

Well this year's August cannot be called a bad month! In fact it was better than any month we had before April 2010, less than two and a half years ago, and 14% up on last year's August. It shows we are doing what local people want, thanks for all your custom and support once again.

4. Reserved newspapers.

Please remember that if you ask us to, we can keep newspapers for you any day but this is especially useful when demand is higher at the weekend.

But also remember that we only keep them until 11am on Saturdays and Sundays unless you tell us to keep them for your collection later (in which case, we expect you to buy them whether or not you get them on the day because we won’t send it back to the supplier for a credit). After 11am, we may sell your reserved paper to another customer if we have run out of unreserved papers.

5. Wine Club

We are just about to send out the list of wines for this quarter’s wine club round. Please let us know your order as soon as you can and then we can place the order. If you haven’t joined the club, now is the time to do so and we’ll send you the list. It’s free, there is no commitment to buy and we get a good menu of red and white wines, all in mixed cases (so you get a good range to try) from Noel Young, prize winning wine merchant and maker in Trumpington.

Thanks everyone
