We have quite a lot of news again, so here goes...
You don’t need to battle your way through Cambridge for all your Xmas shopping – some of it can be done right here in the village. Our Xmas stock will be out on display at the beginning of November, and we’ll also have the necessary wrapping paper and bags to turn all of your Xmas shopping into really special presents. We are particularly proud of our selection of luxury confectionery, and we haven’t forgotten the Xmas cards! (And don’t you forget that you can get your stamps here too!). Last year our first ever Late Night Shopping evening (yes, in Thriplow!!) was a great success, so we plan to repeat it this year, on Wed 28th November. You’ll be able to browse with a glass of mulled wine in one hand and a mince pie in the other. What could be better than that?!
2. Jewellery in the shop!
Earlier in the year the shop hosted two local ladies, Kay and Sylvia, and their wonderful range of hand-made jewellery. We are lucky enough to be having them back in time for you to buy some very original pieces for Xmas. They will be with us at the Late Night Shopping evening and on other dates as well. More about that later.
3. The Shop Garden
You may have noticed that the small piece of land in front of the garage has now been planted up with a selection of shrubs, and there should be a good display of daffodils and tulips in the spring (in time for Daffodil Weekend, we hope!). Thanks are due to Scotsdales, for advice and a contribution towards costs, and to our pub manager Di’s husband, Michael, who has made an excellent job of the planting!
4. 150 Club News
The winner of last month’s draw was Alison Starr, a shop committee member (at last)! Other prizes went to Sue Whitmore, Jim Glazier and Geoff Axe. Well done to all! The next draw will be on Wednesday 24 October in the Pub and will be the last one of our this year of the lottery. The next draw in November will need your entrance fees to be fully paid up, so if you haven’t done so already, please ask if you can pay your fee when you next come into the shop. We know your numbers if you can’t remember them!
5. Thriplow Wine Club
We are close to placing our order for the next Wine Club round. If you wish to order anything, or see the menu of case selections, please ask Kevin via the shop or via email at ck.clarke@PROTECTED.
6. An Apology
We are sorry that last Saturday, the shop was late in opening. There are no excuses, we failed to do what you expect us to do and committee members had to open when we realised that no-one had been scheduled to run the shop that day. We can’t remember another time when this happened so we hope you will forgive us and we hope it doesn’t happen again.
