Date: June 20th 2013

Well it’s been a while since the last newsletter but now for our latest news....

  1. Our financial performance has improved
  2. Come to our AGM
  3. 150 Club winners
  4. We will be open during the roadworks
  5. The Debit Card machine is currently not working
  6. BBQ time!
  7. Crop for the Shop
  8. Our financial performance has improved again

Last time we mailed you, we ere worried about the slow start that we made to 2013. We couldn’t really figure out what had changed. Well nothing has changed it seems, the blip in turnover that we were worried about was just that, a blip. We are now back to normal levels of turnover.

We did have a much lower level of sales on Daffodil Weekend and we had a later wine club round this year than last year, both of which made the early figures look poor, but April and May’s figures are better. Let’s hope this continues – from next month, we have to pay our rent rather than use the much-needed Daffodil Weekend subsidy.

2. Come to our AGM

You will probably have had other information about this but just a reminder that we hold our AGM in the Village Hall at 8pm on Monday, June 24th.

Please come along if you can. It will not be a long meeting. In it, we shall hear the results of the year to the end of January 2013 and we also need to elect the committee for the next year.

3. 150 Club Winners

The April 150 Club draw winners were Annie Eccles, Jude Babar and Di King. May’s winners were David White, Michael Moule, Keith Evans and Gina Gomez. Congratulations to everyone! We still have a few balls to sell and for the 5 draws remaining in the year, they will cost you only £6.25. Every month we pay out £110 in prizes and we also make something for the shop. Ask in the shop if you would like a number.

The next 150 Club draw will be on Tuesday 25th June in the Green Man at about 8.30pm. Join us if you can!

4. The (Delayed) Roadworks....

We all thought the roads would be resurfaced this week. That is what the signs said. Wrong! They are now planning to do the work next week.

But don’t worry, the shop will be open as normal during the work. We understand access will be feasible although it might be tricky for a short time as the machines work near the shop.

5. Our Debit Card Machine is out of action

Since yesterday, we have been having trouble with our machine that allows us to let you pay by debit card. We think it will be fixed with a new machine when it arrives today – at least we hope so! In the meantime, we are sorry to not be able to offer you payment by debit card. If you wish to set up a Prepay account, please let us know, it is very easy.

6. It is actually summer, and time for the BBQ to come out...

...and we have some lovely BBQ ready meat in our fridge and freezer. We have chicken, lamb, pork and beef, often marinated in one of several sauces. They are from Russell’s in Meldreth and their chicken is barn reared. Two packs of this meat are exceptional value at £6.

Remember we also have peppers, onions and mushrooms for the BBQ too.

7. Crop for the Shop time

Although the summer has been late in arriving this year, we are approaching the time when excess production in the kitchen garden can be donated to the shop for sale to other customers at low prices. We always get a good response from donors, and our customers (some of whom have no time or space to grow their own) tend to prefer the Thriplow produce. It all makes sense to share it around and it is good for the shop too!

That is probably enough for now....
