Hi folks. Lots of good news this month, especially for some lucky 150 Club winners....

  1. TVSA Subscriptions are ahead of last year
  2. The Shoe Bank outside the shop garage
  3. Our little garden area
  4. Remember to cancel your reserved newspapers while you are on holiday
  5. 150 Club winners in July
  6. Subscriptions to the Shop

We would like to thank all those of you who have recently renewed your subscriptions or who have taken out new ones. This year's response has been amazing, and we are delighted that so many people appreciate the importance of a village shop and the need to keep it as a vibrant centre of the community. We are particularly pleased that a number of Fowlmere residents, and even Cambridge residents, have joined the Association. Several people added a generous donation to their subscription, for which we are extremely grateful.

The shop is now standing completely on its own two feet and Daffodil Weekend is no longer paying our rent. Hence, this year's subscriptions were of unusually great importance to us, and the village has done us proud!

2. The Shoe Bank

We've all got shoes lurking at the back of the wardrobe, be they worn-out, uncomfortable or merely out of fashion! Please bring yours to the collecting box next to the shop - you may be surprised to know that the shop gets a regular payment for our donated shoes! It's small but every little counts, as one of our larger competitors has been known to say!

3. The Shop’s Garden Area

We have planted the area in front of the garage now that the tree has been removed. The ground cover plants are still maturing and the bulbs have all finished for the year so it's looking a little bare! Too late to ask for your surplus summer bedding, but if you do have any small, non-invasive (so not snow-in-summer, please!) plants that you think might look good at the front of the bed do feel free to plant them! (Or contact Judy Bradshaw if your knees are not up to the job!). In the autumn, we'll increase the number of bulbs in the bed so it will look great again next spring!

4. Holiday Newspaper Orders

Just a short reminder to ask you to cancel your newspaper orders while you are away on holiday please. If we don’t know you are away, we hold onto your newspaper until nearly closing time, so we end up sending them back when we could usually have sold them to other people who don’t have one reserved. This is especially important at weekends when we are short of certain titles (we won’t bore you with why we can’t order more!)

5. 150 Club Winners
July’s winners were:

1st prize – Caroline Shaw
2nd prize – Jude Babar
3rd prize – Ali Parkes
4th prize – David Easthope (well we thought the Chairman should win something after 4 years of trying (only joking, it was a fair draw!)

Congratulations to all!
