Dear Villagers
Daffodil Weekend has been contacted by a television production company who are working on the second series of a gardening programme for BBC Two - The Great British Garden Revival. The programme aims to revive the public’s appetite for gardening, and some of its bygone traditions. Each episode focuses on a different horticultural style or tradition that might have fallen out of popular favour and will be championed by one of the nation’s favourite gardening experts. One of the episodes in the second series will be looking at daffodils!
We hope that the production company will feature Daffodil Weekend as a whole but they have also asked for names of villagers who are particularly proud of the daffodils in the own gardens. If you have some impressive displays of daffodils in your garden and you would be happy to be featured in the programme please contact me (email: dansoph@PROTECTED or Tel. 07906366668).
In the first instance, the Assistant Producer, Clare Hamman, would want to speak to you. After that they will decide the best way to put the programme together. As with all things on TV, there is no certainty but this does sound like a project that is fairly well-advanced.
Potentially, this is a really exciting opportunity for Thriplow and would be great advance publicity for 2015 Daffodil Weekend. The programme (if it happens) would not air until late 2014/early 2015. If they do decide they want to feature Thriplow, they would come and film in the village sometime over the next few weeks. If that did happen, it would also be a wonderful hook to get local TV, radio and press to talk about this year's event.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards
Dan Murton
