Thriplow Shop Newsletter, 15 September 2014.
Lots of news so here goes...
- We are financially sound
- A new member of staff is needed
- Request for help with the shop garden.
- Thank you for your TVSA Subscriptions.
- 150 Club continues on with another year.
- Wine Club round active now
- Our finances are in good shape. Over the summer, we also received approval from Daffodil Weekend to buy a new till computer and software and we are appraising the options now. Takings have been up on last year and we are progressing well.
- We have been told by David and Jenny, who normally open the shop on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, that they will no longer be able to do this in the New Year. We will therefore be looking to cover at least these 9 hours with a new member of staff. There is a high probability that if more hours are needed, they will be available because cover is always needed for holidays, sickness and emergencies. If you like getting up in the morning and need some extra cash, this little job would be ideal for you. Please let us know if you are interested
- The Shop Garden (in front of the garage) needs stocking up for next year. After a little weeding, (thanks Colin and Judy), it is looking a little bare now. We have put down some compost as a mulch, but if you have any spare, well-behaved, plants that you think might make a good-looking contribution, do go ahead and plant them. Lavender might look particularly good! In the autumn we will put in some extra bulbs to make the display even better next year!
- Thank you for your TVSA subscriptions. Although this year the shop has been very proud of standing on its own two feet without outside help for running costs from Daffodil Weekend, our costs do continue to rise and we are still very dependent upon fundraising to keep finances healthy. The annual subscription to the TVSA is particularly important to us, and this year has been a terrific effort from our customers. So, many grateful thanks to those of you who have renewed your subscriptions, and a special thanks to those who have taken out a new subscription. (And we would be delighted to hear from anybody who has yet to renew or would like to become a TVSA member – cash, cheque, debit card or prepay deduction are all perfectly acceptable!)
- Onwards with the 150 Club. For those of you that don’t know, the 150 Club is a lottery run by the shop with four monthly prizes of £50, £30, £20 and £10. All it costs for a monthly entry into the lottery is £15 per year. The last year of investment runs out at the end of October so it’s now time to renew your number(s) and ensure that you get the ones you had last year, or to change to some luckier ones! Just ask in the shop to renew or buy an entry. This is another good fundraiser for the shop so thank you for supporting the lottery. August winners were Ian Seaton, Peter Twigg and James Freestone.
- Thriplow Wine Club. We are running the second round of the Wine Club just now. If you need a list of wines on offer, please ask in the shop or reply to this emailed newsletter. There are various options of 12 bottle cases ranging from £7 to £12 per bottle. These wines are selected by Noel Young in Trumpington. We deliver your order to your house, there is no entry fee and no obligation to buy more cases.
