Shop Newsletter
Well folks, what a weekend that was! Hopefully you didn’t notice but we had one or two problems going on, more later...
- New members of staff on Saturday
- Judy’s Memorial Garden
- 150 Club subs now due
- Carrier bags – to charge or not to charge?
- This weekend’s problems
- Danny Parsons of Middle St is our new member of staff, primarily for Saturdays but he has already helped us out to cover some time when other staff were sick. His mum Caroline has also been trained and will cover for Danny when he is unavailable on Saturdays. It’s great to have another local person(s) involved in the shop operation and we welcome Danny and Caroline to our team. Please say hi to them if you see either of them in the shop.
- We have put a little something special in the shop garden that Judy Bradshaw planted and maintained. We have purchased a rose of her favourite colour, and put a small sign in the garden. We have heard from Keith that Judy would have appreciated this gesture, and the rose. Next time you call, please have a look and spend a moment thinking of Judy.
- It’s a new year for the 150 Club and subs are due now. For those of you who don’t know, it costs just £15 to enter for twelve draws and each month, there are winners of £50, £30, £20 and £10. The chances of winning are higher than the national lottery and all profits go into the shop coffers so even if you don’t win, it is worthwhile! Just ask for a number (or to retain your old one if you are already a member of the draw) when you are in the shop. Payment can be by any method, even on the account.
- We don’t charge for carrier bags! This is because a) we have less than 250 employees and b) they are recycled. Don’t hesitate to ask for one if you need one. But we are expecting bags to be difficult to get hold of so please bring us any that you get elsewhere, and your old ones back.
- On Friday, late morning, we had a disk crash in the till computer. It was nobody’s fault, just something that happens if you are unlucky. For the rest of that day we had to make paper notes of the transactions but by 6pm, thanks to excellent technical support and a replacement disk drive, we were back in business with the till and full service was restored when we had entered the paper transactions. This meant that Caroline was able to open as usual on Saturday morning – her first shift on her own!
Then on Sunday, there was a mix up over who was opening the shop, and this meant the shop wasn’t open until about 9.30. We are sorry for all this trouble, we’ll try our best to not let it all happen again.
