Hi everyone, with Christmas just around the corner, you might like to know the following...

  1. Christmas Goods now on display
  2. Radio Cambridge and our Hamper for the Cambridge Homeless at Christmas
  3. Open on Boxing Day
  4. 150 Club starts its sixth year
  5. We have set up for our big Christmas Display above the wine section and along the front of the shop. On it, you will see lots of ideas for stocking fillers, last minute presents and things for the house at Christmas. Please have a browse, we are sure something will tempt you.

We have been displaying a big luscious fruit-cake over the last two weeks, unfortunately, we HAD to sell it but more are available so if you want a nice Christmas cake (£12.50), let us know and we’ll put yours on the list. Don’t forget we also sell stamps – we will be getting quite a few Christmas stamps in soon, if you want some, please let Helen know as they will run out.

We are holding our Late Night Christmas Shopping on December 2nd, accompanied by mulled wine and mince pies to get you in the spirit, come along if you can, we’ll be open till 8pm.

We will also, as usual, be raffling a hamper so buy your tickets as and when Sue gets them in, don’t worry about remembering – she will remind you to get one!

2. We were lucky enough to get some publicity on Radio Cambridgeshire last Tuesday. They were discussing the amount of food waste from the big supermarkets and they wanted a take on how much little shops waste. Helen conducted a live interview with their reporter. Well as you know, we sell things that go past their sell by date for half price and most things usually go from the basket, so the only waste we really have is the baked products that are left when we close the shop. As disappointing as this is, we can’t see a practical way to avoid wasting these few items. We were impressed by the Radio Cambridgeshire story though, and the shop has committed to fill a hamper for Christmas to go to a Cambridge homeless persons charity so that the shop can help out those that aren’t going to have as good a Christmas as we all will. If you want to contribute, feel free to do so.

3. Advanced warning that we will be open from 9-11 on Boxing Day so that you can get your newspaper. We are planning our other Christmas opening times now and will notify you of those later.

4. A big thank you to everyone who has bought the next year of 150 Club draws. There are a few balls left, and a few people still haven’t renewed yet, so if you want to join us for the next 12 months, with over £1,300 in prize money available, please ask. You can even charge the £15 annual fee to your account!

Kevin
