Daffodil Weekend 16th and 17th April 2016
Hi all,
Daffodil Weekend is all about the village working together as a community. It is a great way to meet people, have fun and raise money for good causes. It is a unique event and something we should all be proud of!
Preparations are well underway for this years event. Below are some more details on the arrangements and ways you may like to get involved.
Daffodils: They will be in flower for Daffodil Weekend!
· As you may be aware we planted over 75,000 bulbs this year. · These were carefully selected to give a range of flowering times from February through to late April (so we can have more flexibility on setting the date in future years) · Some of the late flowering varieties are only just starting to appear and will be perfect for the weekend. · Please assure anyone thinking of visiting that WE WILL HAVE DAFFODILS along with many other attractions!
New village layout and programme
· This year the layout of Daffodil Weekend has been altered – look out for new marquees, tractor rides and displays · The layout has been altered to accommodate new attractions, the unavailability of some venues and to manage the flow of our visitors · Look out for the exciting new look programme and map outside the shop for more details
Serving tea and helping in the car parks
· Rotas have been created for all of the venues but we are always looking for more help · Transport, car parking, heavy horses etc contact Imran Tayabali admin@PROTECTED · Serving teas, cake and sandwich making contact Gill McDonnell daffodilweekendcatering@PROTECTED
Open gardens
· We have a number of open gardens but it would be great if we could have more – please contact Paul Earnshaw (admin@PROTECTED) if you are willing to open your garden – even just for a few hours at some point in the weekend
Tidy village
· This year we have engaged a local scout troop to tidy up over the weekend itself. However it would be great to get the village looking spic and span ahead of the weekend. If you are able please pick up any litter you see in particular around your own house area.
Stalls at home
· Please remember that it is the event itself which gives you the opportunity for you to have a stall at home. If too many of us focus on our own personal fund raising we will not have the resources to support the main event and we will all lose. It would be greatly appreciated therefore that for profit generating stalls that you contribute 10% of your takings. If you are raising money purely for charity it would be good if you could let us know approximately how much you raised so we can create a “grand total” of money raised for charity by the whole event. If you would like to apply for a stall at home please contact Lisa Maltpress at admin@PROTECTED
Road closures and entry to the village
· As usual the roads will be closed between 9am and 6pm on the Saturday and Sunday of the weekend. We will be distributing programmes around the village just before the weekend. These can be used to gain entry to the village during the road closures. If you require extra programmes for visitors you may be expecting please contact admin@PROTECTED . Note the aim of this village programme distribution is to allow you access and is not intended to give free entry to everyone! This is a charity event so please encourage any visitors you may invite to contribute to the fund raising.
Contacting Daffodil Committee
· Please get in touch with us if you have any suggestions or concerns. We are always looking for people to join us - so if you want to have fun and help in organising a major charity event we will be able to find a role for you.
