Hi Everyone,
Do you want a display of heritage daffodils? (for free!)
I hope you agree that the displays of daffodils in our village are superb. We are attracting visitors from far and wide and they are full of praise for our beautiful and friendly village.
We do not need any more mass plantings but we would like to increase the number of variants we have on show. In particular we want to build up a stock of old English, heritage varieties. We need your help to do this:
Do you have an area at the front of your house that is currently free of daffodils and that can be seen by visitors? If yes, in the autumn Daffodil Committee will give you approximately 20 bulbs of a specialist heritage variety for you to plant. You must plant these carefully as they will be high value. You will be given a naming sign that you can put out with them in the spring so people can find them. Your display will also be included in the proposed “Guide to the daffodils of Thriplow”
If you are interested please e mail admin@PROTECTED and you will be given more information. We need to move quickly on this whilst we can still see and mark where the gaps in the daffodils are, and then carefully record what variants are where
Care of our daffodils
The daffodil displays we have will continue to improve if we look after them. If you are out walking why not dead head a few? It’s actually quite fun and also therapeutic (I think about my boss whilst doing it). If you can, resist cutting the leaves of the daffodils for at least 6 weeks after they have flowered and they will reward you with a much stronger flowering next year
Open meeting
Why not have your say about Daffodil Weekend – and see where all of the money raised goes? The proposed date for the open meeting is Thursday 14th June in the Village Hall. Look out for further updates.
Best wishes
Daffodil Committee
