As most of you may have seen, our lovely wagyu cattle are happily grazing in Thriplow meadow, next to our pigs.
The cattle are very friendly, they get fed twice a day so their natural reaction if you enter the field will be to approach you. They are always hopeful for food and may give you a good sniff to see if you're hiding any goodies up your jumper. This may be intimidating if you're not used to large animals, however if you remain calm, and don't run or startle them, then they too will remain calm.
If you're taking a dog in to the field then please be aware that cattle sometimes perceive dogs as a threat. Our cattle are dog trained and were worked by cattle dogs at their last home, however there is always a chance they may try to chase your dog out of the field. If this happens, the rambling association advise that you let the dog off the lead so that it can run to safety. There is more info here: http://www.ramblers.org.uk/advice/safety/walking-near-livestock.aspx
If you have an interest in seeing the orchids but don't feel comfortable/safe crossing the cattle field, please contact us directly so that we can help you. We feed the cattle twice daily, usually between 8-9am and between 3-4pm. If you would like to come with us to the field you can access the orchid field whilst the cattle are heads down in the trough. If neither of these times are convenient for you then please let us know and we'll try and arrange another time to see you across the field.
