Thriplow at the Lord Mayor’s Show - Update

Hi All

With just over three weeks to go, we thought it would be useful to update everyone about Thriplow's float for the Lord Mayor's Show Procession taking place on Saturday 9th November.

Firstly, congratulations to village resident William Russell on his official election as the 692nd Lord Mayor of London. He takes up the one year post on the 8th November.

Many will have noticed the proliferation of yellow wheelbarrows in the village. For the team taking part in the procession, the past few weeks have involved a major step-up in the number of barrow practices ahead of the big day. The Yellow Barrow display team, last seen at the village's Daffodil Weekend 50th Anniversary Party, form the core of our entry, led by the Saxon Warrior, Tryppa. Our ‘float’ brings together many of the strands that bind our village together, with children from the primary school, Angela, our Vicar from St George’s Church, players from the Cricket Club and just a few of the hundreds of volunteers who have helped the annual Thriplow Daffodil Weekend raise over £500,000 for local charities over the past 52 years. It’s the people that make a community and our float will celebrate everyone who makes our village so special.

I know many of you are travelling down to London to see the procession. The event is also being televised so, if you are not in London, do tune in from 11am on that Saturday morning. Best not to turn on the television too late as the Thriplow entry is number three in the parade! In fact, we are the first float, with only two marching bands ahead of us!

All of the participants for our float are self-funding their travel and costumes for the event. We have been lucky enough to secure sponsorship for the yellow barrows themselves (which will be branded with Daffodil Weekend 2020) and we will also be using some of the funds raised at the summer 'Pimms at the Bury' event (the rest going to the Cornerstone project at the School). Given the amount of publicity the event should generate, the balance is being funded from Daffodil Weekend's promotional budget.
