Dear Customers of Green Man Thriplow,
I hope this email finds you well.
It has been a turbulent few months, with a huge amount of sacrifice & change for all of us. To have had our lovely pub shut by the government for 103 days was certainly not something we had a contingency plan for, but we are lucky to have great landlords, and a period of rent cancellation and rent reduction has really helped us keep our heads above water.
It’s a sad fact that as many as 30% of pubs haven't yet reopened, and many of these never will. We are pleased to say that because of your ongoing support The Green Man is on the road to recovery, it is a slow road, but we are doing everything we can to make sure our lovely village pub survives.
As I’m sure most of you know, we are open for outside service only. We have not reopened our inside space and have no plans to until we feel confident that it is safe to do so. The reality of this means that we are currently very weather dependent, and although the weather on the whole has been very kind to us this summer, the recent thunder storms and extreme periods of rain have meant that we have had to close on a couple of occasions. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
We are in the process of arranging an outdoor covered area, which we hope will be in place by the 26th of August (fingers crossed). This won’t be the perfect solution, but it should give us the ability to stay open even on rainy days for those hardy souls amongst you who will venture out whatever the weather.
We are all having to learn how to socialise in a slightly different way, and we are working hard to provide a safe pub experience that adheres to the government guidelines. Our undercover area won’t be as warm or as comfortable as being inside the pub, but it will be safe, and that’s our top priority.
In regards to our current and future food offering, we have a very small kitchen at The Green Man, and so on a practical note we can only safely have 2/3 chefs working at any one time (with social distancing adhered to). We are currently looking into additional options for main meals and will continue to keep the tapas menu changing with new dishes coming and going. So thank you again for giving us the time we need to overcome the challenges that social distancing poses, and we hope to be able to offer some more interesting food options soon. The last thing we want is for you to get bored!
We would like to send our sincere thanks to the board of directors, Mark, Nigel, Caroline, Mary & Kevin for their whole hearted support. They have at times had to deal with our tears and frustration, but they are always on hand to help! We are very lucky indeed, not many other pub tenants can say that.
Thank you also to all of our customers and shareholders who have kept the business alive by physically visiting us and spending money ’over the bar’. You truly are the reason why we are still here, and we hope that throughout the autumn & winter months ahead you’ll continue to come out & support The Green Man (perhaps you’ll just need to bring an extra jumper!)
Take care & hope to see you soon.
Best wishes
Chris & Rebecca
